Sony Kdl-32ex700 Bravia Hdtv Firmware 4.110ghl For Mac

Posted on

My apologies as this is slightly off topic, but any insights would be much appreciated. I have a KDL-40CX523 TV and am trying to get the latest firmware installed on it via USB stick from Sony UK's website. According to Sony's instructions, you download a zip file, unpack it and transfer the folder containing the firmware to the root of a USB stick and use the TV's menus to apply the update. I've now tried this with 4 different sticks, but get the same issue - when the USB stick is inserted into the TV I see a message along the lines of 'No applicable firmware update found'. However, using the TV's controls I can browse to that folder and can confirm that the binary file is present. Thus far I've tried one EMTEC and 3 PNY sticks of differing capacities to no avail, all formatted as FAT32. I did wonder if it was down to the fact that I'm using a Mac, but the fact that the TV can read the drives would suggest that this isn't the issue.

I know that the the Mac places a number of hidden files/directories on everything it touches, but the Sony documentation doesn't state that the media has to be entirely empty, just that the folder structure is preserved. In any event, I deleted the hidden stuff but still hit the same problem. The currently installed firmware is PKG.235EUA-0104, and I'm trying to install version PKG3.904EUA. I had exactly the same issue with a KDL-40EX403 TV that I owned previously, as did at least another couple of people, based on this thread:. I don't have access to any Windows machines to try and generate the firmware on, nor can I set-up network access for the TV, so right now I'm stumped. Do I need a particular brand of USB stick, does it need formatting in a specific way?

Am I missing something really obvious here? Any insights would be greatly appreciated - apologies for the post as it's not a Mac issue per se, but I'm out of ideas.
